The legend of Rose Hall

On a dark and stormy night in 1820 a young woman by the name of Annie Palmer, née Annie Mae Patterson, arrived on the island of Jamaica to become the wife of John Palmer, the owner of Rose Hall plantation. Mr. Palmer, who mysteriously died some time later, was the first of three husbands to allegedly be killed at the hands of Annie, who quickly became known, and feared, as a voodoo-practicing witch. Legend says that Annie was murdered in her own bed by one of her slaves, who was also rumoured to be one of her lovers. While Rose Hall was fully restored to its original state of grandeur in 1965, Annie’s ghost is said to haunt the area, referred to as the Elegant Corridor due to the number of exclusive beachfront properties that line it.

Visit the Rose Hall estate, including Annie Palmer’s grave, while staying at the decadent, adults-only Iberostar Grand Hotel Rose Hall, the all-suites Iberostar Rose Hall Suites or the family-friendly Iberostar Rose Hall Beach in Jamaica.
