Airport check-in
It is recommended that you present yourself at the airport counter of the airline indicated on your voucher 3 hours prior to departure. Air Canada or Air Canada Vacations representatives will be available starting at 5 a.m.

Currency
New Zealand's unit of currency is the New Zealand dollar (NZD). Coins have values of 10, 20 and 50 cents, $1 and $2; notes have values of $5, $10, $20, $50 and $100.
Shopping
New Zealand offers a huge variety of shopping opportunities; from arts and craft markets, to galleries, museum shops and exclusive designer stores. For traditional New Zealand souvenirs, look for Maori carvings in wood, bone and pounamu (greenstone or jade). You can also find jewellery and ornaments made from the iridescent paua shell (abalone), treasured by Maori for centuries. New Zealand potters are recognized as among the worlds finest. Many fine artisans are also work with stone, wood, glass and metals. The country's vast wool industry makes it possible to find wonderful hand-knit sweaters, beautiful wall hangings, homespun yarns and top-quality sheepskins.

Visa, MasterCard and American Express are accepted in virtually every hotel in major cities throughout the country, as well as in most stores and restaurants.
Eating & Drinking
New Zealand's 'Pacific Rim' cuisine style takes its inspiration from regions and countries such as Europe, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Polynesia, Japan and Vietnam. This unique blend of influences has created a mouth-watering range of flavours and food available from cafes and restaurants nationwide. For dishes that have a distinctly New Zealand style look out for lamb, pork and venison; salmon, crayfish, Bluff oysters, paua (abalone), mussels and scallops; kumara (sweet potato); kiwifruit and tamarillo; and pavlova, the national dessert, made from meringue and lashings of fresh whipped cream topped with fresh fruit or berries.
Tipping
Tipping in New Zealand is not obligatory - even in restaurants and bars. However, tipping for good service or kindness is at the discretion of the visitor. Hotels and restaurants in New Zealand do not add service charges to their bills.

The north of New Zealand is subtropical and the south temperate. With the seasons being the opposite of the Northern Hemisphere’s, the warmest months are December, January and February, and the coldest June, July and August. In summer, the average maximum temperature ranges between 20-30ºC and in winter between 10-15ºC

New Zealand is one of the safest travel destinations in the world, with a relatively low crime rate, few endemic diseases and a first-class healthcare and accident compensation system. However, it is recommended to observe the same precautions with regards to safety and personal possessions as in any other country.

Hotel checkout times may vary depending on the property but generally you must vacate the room by 12 p.m. (noon).
Duty-free shopping
After an absence of 7 days or more, Canadian residents are permitted to return with a maximum of 750 CAD of merchandise per trip without paying duty. Each time you leave Canada for at least 48 hours, you are eligible to declare up to 400 CAD of merchandise. A written declaration may be requested. Each adult is allowed 1.1 litres (40 oz.) of liquor, 200 cigarettes, 50 cigars or cigarillos, 200 tobacco sticks and 200 grams (7 oz.) of manufactured tobacco. To calculate the number of days absent, do not count the day you left Canada but include the day you return. If you include cigarettes, tobacco sticks and loose tobacco in your personal exemption allowance, only a partial exemption will apply. You will have to pay a minimum duty on these products unless they are marked “Canada-Duty paid”. Canadian made products sold at duty-free shops will be marked this way.
