City highlights
Museums, arts centres, theme parks, cinemas, theatres, terraces, pubs and bars are only a few of the endless possibilities that a great city like Seville holds.
The celebrations of Easter Week and Feria de Abril (the April Fair) reflect the devotion and folklore of the people of Seville who are always open and friendly to visitors. Visitors will discover the immense natural wealth of this region, which sits halfway between two continents, in treasures such as the Doñana Nature Reserve, declared a World Heritage Site and Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO, and the Sierra Norte Nature Reserve. These sites are the ideal setting for practicing outdoor sports, including hiking, horse riding, and cycling. If golf is your sport of choice, then you will be glad to know that Seville has four excellent golf courses nearby.
Getting around
Seville is ideal for exploring on foot. The historic centre is made up of narrow, winding streets that are ideal for walking. Strolling through these streets and alleyways is the best way to get to know Seville, but it is not the only option. There is excellent bus service in Seville and there are also taxis which can take you comfortably around the city.
Bus is a quick and efficient way of getting into the city’s historic centre. Buses run between 6 a.m. and 11.45 p.m. during the week, and from 7 a.m. to 11.45 p.m. on Sundays and public holidays. The underground system opens at 6:30 a.m. and closes at 11 p.m. Monday to Thursday; and operates between 6:30 a.m. and 2 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and between 7:30 a.m. and 11 p.m. on Sundays and public holidays.
Most people prefer to use taxis at night for speed and comfort. They are available any time, any day of the year.
Shopping
Craft products such as ceramics, lace, shawls, fans, foodstuffs, fashion, jewellery and antiques are just a few of the things you will find in Seville. Traditional establishments stand side by side with new franchises and shopping centres, giving shoppers a wide range of possibilities in the capital of Andalusia.
Seville has everything from craft works and souvenirs to sophisticated fashion to offer shoppers of its many shops, workshops, shopping centres and street markets. There are three main shopping areas in Seville: the old centre, Triana and Nervión.
Dining
The gastronomy of Seville is as varied as its landscapes and products. A combination of old recipes that have been handed down from generation to generation mix with the modern to create something traditional, yet new, and delicious.
Sightseeing
Seville has a special charm and unique monuments. For example, close to the Real Alcázar you will find the Cathedral of Seville’s Giralda Tower. Also not to be missed is the city’s emblematic Guadalquivir River. You can take a boat trip along it and get a great view of the Torre del Oro (gold) Tower and the Triana neighbourhood, famous for its tapas bars.
The Andalusian capital has many parks and gardens. The most famous of these include those at Casa de Pilatos (House of Pilate), Las Delicias (Garden of Delights) and especially the gardens of María Luisa Park, Seville’s main city park, located alongside Plaza de España (Spain Square). You can visit the park in a horse-drawn carriage.
Nature and local fauna are of great importance in Seville. The main places to view these are the Zoológico de Carmona, an educational park that includes many bird and mammal species; Trance de Aragón Animal Reserve, with its rich sample of indigenous and foreign species; Cañada de los Pájaros nature reserve, in La Puebla del Río; and El Castillo de las Guardas nature reserve, with exotic animals living in partial freedom.
Entertainment & nightlife
Seville has many cultural activities that capture the attention of all visitors like Territorios Sevilla festival that includes traditional music and multicultural performances.
When it comes to nightlife, the city has a wide variety of places to go. The district of Santa Cruz and Argote de Molina Street are ideal spots to have the first drink of the night. The bustle continues to Calle Betis and La Alfalfa, with plenty of bars and nightclubs. To dance the night away, go to the areas where the streets Marqués de Paradas, Julio César, and Adriano are located, near the old Plaza de Armas station. If visiting the city in summer time, it is strongly recommended that you frequent the many restaurants and terraces set up along the banks of the river.
