During your stay

City highlights

The Sorrento Peninsula has a unique landscape composed of alternating hills, valleys and mountains. You will see its famous terraces on which olive groves, vineyards and lemon trees are grown.

Experience thermal treatments in Scrajo’s waters, take a boat excursion, or visit the necropolises of Aequa and Deserto.

While in the peninsula, take the time to visit the many monasteries and cloisters, like that of San Francesco in Sorrento, and the ancient hamlets with frescoed churches, like the Chapel of Santa Lucia in Vico Equense.

Getting around

By car:
The Sorrento Peninsula can be reached from Naples via the [A3] Highway “Salerno-Reggio Calabria.” Stay on this road until you reach the exit for Castellammare di Stabia, which is on the northern side of the peninsula and is linked to Sorrento by “Statale 145.” From there, follow the signs for Sorrento and Positano.

By bus:
From the Capodichino Airport, daily buses depart for the Sorrento Peninsula.

By train:
Trenitalia - Italian Railways
The main station is Stazione Napoli Centrale in Piazza Garibaldi. Two other important stations of Naples are: Mergellina (300 metres from the pier - subway, taxi and bus links) and Campi Flegrei (in Fuorigrotta, on the north outskirts of Naples – subway, taxi and bus links).

Shopping

The centre of Sorrento shopping is undoubtedly Via S. Cesareo. The many-coloured shops follow one another along an ancient Greco-Roman road.

Popular items include artistic ceramics, scented wax and local delicacies like limoncello sweets, rosolio liqueur and jams.

You won’t want to miss the weekly street market in Sorrento that takes place every Tuesday.

Dining
Simple, tasty and typically Mediterranean is what best describes the flavours of the Sorrento Peninsula. Dishes are generally created from local ingredients and fresh seafood.

Enjoy handmade pasta, pizza, cheeses, sausages and genuine D.O.C. wines for all tastes.

Sightseeing

Vico Equense
With its Castle Giusso and its austere Mount Faito (1,400 m.), Vico Equense will let you journey from the sea to the mountain in a few minutes.

Meta
Meta’s ancient farmhouses and sunny beaches are one of Italy’s best-kept secrets.

Piano di Sorrento
A lively town that has combined its maritime and rural identities to become the trade centre of the peninsula. High walls that once enclosed old citrus groves run along narrow lanes that cross its low hill.

Sant’Agnello
Located on a ridge on the sea, Sant’Agnello once enchanted the royal family of the Bourbons and the princes of all Europe, who built fabulous villas here.

Massa Lubrense
Located at the extreme border of the peninsula, just in front of Capri, it is a natural oasis with countless footpaths among ancient farmhouses and archaeological sites.

Entertainment & nightlife

There are lots of traditional festivals and events all year round as well as sports, concerts, theatres and bars.
