Long distance calls
Calling Canada from your mobile phone will be expensive, followed by a fixed line (home or public telephone booth) call. In many cases the most economic possibility is using a long distance calling card bought at a Trafik or a small telco store

Getting around
The best way to visit Vienna's sights and discover the city on your own is by public transport; underground, trams, buses and rapid transit.
The Vienna Card is the best way to take advantage of the extensive network of subway trains (which run till shortly after midnight), streetcars and buses.
The subway lines in Vienna run on weekdays from about 5 a.m. to about midnight. On weekends and on the eve of public holidays, the subway trains also run through the night.
Most tram and bus services end before midnight. You can also find the exact timetables of all Vienna lines, together with the timings of the first and last train for each station, on the Wiener Linien website. During the night-time hours, night buses cover the major routes in Vienna. You can also use the night buses at no extra charge with all tickets issued by Wiener Linien.
Apart from public transport, you can also discover Vienna by bicycle and from the water on the Danube Canal.
Sightseeing
Optional excursions are a great way to enhance your Air Canada Vacations holiday. Choose from a wide variety of activities and excursions available at your destination. For more information or to reserve your excursion, please see our activities section.
Tipping
The only people you really must tip are taxi drivers and restaurant or bar staff. If you don't tip them, it's considered a sign that you were very dissatisfied with the food, drink or journey.
When tipping, normally add 5% to 15% to the bill so it's rounded up to a convenient number. So if the bill is 9 Euro, round up to 10. If it's 25, round up to 27. It's flexible.
In cafes, bars and restaurants, you pay the tip in the initial amount you hand over. Don't pay the bill and then leave behind some change or give back a note.
Water
95% of Vienna's water comes through two pipelines direct from the alps. As a result, the tap water is very high quality, low in nitrogen and has no measurable pesticide residues
Electricity
In Vienna electrical current is 220 volts/50Hz and the European round 2-pin plugs are standard. Americans and Canadians with 110V equipment will need a transformer which changes the voltage and an adapter to fit Austrian sockets.
Shopping
When it comes to shopping, Vienna has something to offer everyone. From large fashion chains to small boutiques, from elegant flagship stores to famous brands. Shopping streets and pedestrian zones offer luxury goods and good values – at jeweller’s shops as well as antique stores, art stores, and fashion designer boutiques.
Language
The official language in Austria is German. There are many differences between German and Austrian German, but these differences are generally just particular words. English is the number one foreign language Austrians learn and speak, but you may come across people who understand French, Italian, or Spanish too.
Religion
About 78% of the people are Roman Catholic; 5% belong to the Lutheran Church (Ausburger and Helvetic Confessions); and 17% belong to other or no religious groups, including Islam (2%).
Time zone
UTC/GMT +2 hours. This time zone changed to daylight saving time (DST) at 2:00 AM on Sunday, March 27, 2011. The GMT offset is currently UTC/GMT +2 hours (CEST). It will change back to standard time at 3:00 AM on Sunday, October 30, 2011. The new GMT offset will be UTC/GMT +1 hours (CET).
